SPRINGFIELD - In announcing his candidacy for a fourth term as Illinois secretary of state, Jesse White said the run would most likely be his last.

White, a Democrat, began his first term in 1998, succeeding Republican George Ryan in the office. Ryan, who became governor, was later hounded by scandals from his time in the secretary of state's office.
