Vision Testing for Kids Gives Clear Picture

Summary


As the holiday break has come and gone, children are back in school. For many, this is an exciting time. For others, it is a time when the challenges of learning begin again.

Last fall, the Illinois General Assembly passed SB 641, hoping to eliminate some of these challenges. The bill requires comprehensive eye exams for children entering kindergarten or enrolling for the first time in public, private or parochial elementary schools in Illinois. The law went into effect the first of this year. Proof of required eye examination must be submitted by Oct. 15 of each school year.
