BLOOMINGTON - With aldermen miffed over costly repairs needed on a 13-year-old parking garage, the Bloomington City Council on Monday took initial steps to repair two structures and considered how to hold contractors more accountable for their work in the future.

The council voted unanimously to pay engineering firm Walker Restoration Consultants Inc. $60,000 to provide a long-term repair plan for the garage between Bloomington police headquarters and City Hall on Olive Street and to plot the next phase of work on downtown's Market Street Garage.
