Sprinklers Should Be Encouraged in Homes

Summary


Although Central Illinois building officials may not be ready to require sprinklers in single-family homes, they should be promoting them for safety's sake.

Sprinklers have been required in commercial buildings for years, but they're fairly new in single-family homes so it was good to see Habitat for Humanity of McLean County become a model for fire safety in this area by equipping six of its homes under construction in Normal with sprinklers. The project was possible thanks to donated materials from Tyco Fire & Building Products of Carol Stream and donated design and installation by F.E. Moran of Champaign.
