Summary
Rural health care
Rural Americans face greater difficulty accessing health care than their urban and suburban counterparts and are more likely to face chronic disease, according to a new report prepared by the UnitedHealth Center for Health Reform & Modernization. The survey of 2,000 patients and 1,000 primary care physicians by Harris Interactive found that rural doctors and patients rated quality of health care lower than urban and suburban respondents. As health reform expands the number of rural residents with insurance coverage, doctors predict a shortage of rural health care providers. Greater use of telemedicine can help, and the report recommends expanding broadband connectivity, improving reimbursement and reducing regulatory barriers.See the full content of this document
