NORMAL - Kurt Olson had his eyes opened the past five years by the time required of a head football coach. It provided a good look into the future, and Olson could not see himself continuing as University High School's head coach.

The former Pioneer quarterback and assistant coach informed his players and staff on Tuesday that he has resigned after guiding U High to a Class 5A playoff berth this past season. It was the Pioneers' first playoff appearance since 2003, Olson's first year, and they posted their first playoff victory since 1995, when Olson was a senior quarterback.
