Obituaries

TOWANDA - Eleanor Ann Jones Brokaw, wife of Charles Edward Brokaw, 90, Towanda, passed away on Tuesday (Dec. 13, 2011) at Heritage Health in Normal.

Her private graveside service will be at Smith Grove Cemetery in Towanda. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Passages Hospice. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Eleanor was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Normal, to Margaret Hunter and Len Evans Jones. After graduating from Bloomington High School, she attended Illinois Wesleyan University and the University of Arizona. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

At age 22, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Brokaw, on April 10, 1943, at her parents' home in Bloomington. They moved to Victoria, Texas, in 1945, when Charles returned from duty as a fighter pilot in the European theater. Stationed at Victoria, Charles was an Army Air Corps combat flight instructor. After the war, Charles and Eleanor returned to a family farm in Towanda and raised three children, Charles Edward Brokaw Jr., Anne Brokaw Neptune...
