SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois student who was found dead Tuesday after being missing for five years was the subject of a legislative push last spring to improve the use of DNA in missing persons cases.

Ryan Katcher, who was found in his pickup truck submerged in a Vermilion County pond, disappeared in the fall of 2000 en route from campus to his rural Oakwood home.
