SPRINGFIELD - A number of state legislators showed their support for Paul Mangieri in the state treasurers Democratic primary race Tuesday.Mangieri, the party-endorsed candidate for the position, will receive fund-raising and campaign help from the 41 lawmakers who are backing him. Mangieri is currently the Knox County states attorney."Were going to be knocking on doors, working hard with our fellow Democrats in the coming days, trying to make sure they elect the endorsed candidate for treasurer," said state Rep. Dan Reitz, D- Steelville.Alexi Giannoulias, a 29-year-old Chicago-area banker, is challenging Mangieri in the primary. Giannoulias had more than $310,000 in his campaign fund at the end of 2005. Mangieri, however, reported slightly over $5,000.The lawmakers include state Reps. Mike Boland of East Moline, John Bradley of Marion, Bob Flider of Mount Zion, Brandon Phelps of Norris City and Patrick Verschoore of Milan.The primary election is March 21.
