Using Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's signature stamp on letters to family members of soldiers killed in Iraq was about as insensitive as the military could get.

If Rumsfeld's name had not appeared on the letters of condolence, victims' families probably would not have thought too much about it. After all, how many people really expect a letter from the head of the Defense Department?
