NORMAL -- Three Normal police officers have been honored by their union as the state's top cops for subduing a man -- who barricaded himself in his apartment with a child -- before the standoff could turn deadly.

Patrolmen Kevin Henderson, David Ludington and Todd Weir were named Officers of the Year by the Police Benevolent and Protective Association of Illinois. The union's executive board selected the Normal officers over nominees from departments throughout the state.
