El PASO - One of only 100 pricey 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition sports cars is sitting at Heller Ford in El Paso, where it will stay. The limited edition vehicle, which lists for around $150,000, is modeled after the 1966 GT that gave Ford its first victory at the 24-hour Le Mans, a legendary endurance race driven each year at the Le Mans circuit just southwest of Paris, France. Heller earned rights to the car by receiving a Presidents Award for sales and customer service from Ford Motor Co. Only 4 percent of dealers, or 340, receive the award. "Its not for sale. Were going to keep the car and enjoy it every employee will be able to drive the car," said owner Dan Heller. The car features 550 horsepower, 500 pounds of torque and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in about 3.5 seconds, according to Ford Motor Co. Thats about three times the horsepower found in the average new car, according to the Energy Information Administration in Washington D.C.The company has produced 1,000 GTs since reintroducing the sports car to full-scale production in 2004, Heller said. But Ford only made 100 of the heritage editions, which feature a unique teal-and-orange color scheme. "We put the No. 9 on it because its the ninth GT built. Its serial number is 00009," Heller said. "Supposedly, I have the second heritage built, but I dont have documentation to prove that. But we do know for certain this is the ninth GT built."He could have received a GT last March but passed, hoping he would later receive a heritage edition. He did after winning a lottery drawing among other Presidents Award winners. The car arrived on Monday. Last year, Mangold Ford-Mercury of Eureka earned a GT. The vehicle was sold before it hit the lot. Heller has received numerous offers but does not plan to sell the car. It will remain in the showroom with occasional appearances at marketing events, he said.
