SPRINGFIELD - President Bush has formally appointed an Illinois native to be the top federal prosecutor in the state's central district.

Rodger Heaton, 47, has served as interim U.S. attorney for the 46- county region since Dec. 1, when he took over for former prosecutor Jan Paul Miller, who left to go into private practice.
