Fund-Raising with Friends Is the Way to Go

Summary


Dr. Daniel Lange removed my prostate cancer a year ago June 22. During the months before and after, my friends have listened when I needed to talk, given advice when I needed answers and laughed with me when I needed my spirits lifted. Most recently, they helped my efforts to raise a few dollars for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which aids cancer patients, survivors and their families.

I jumped at the chance when local LAF fund-raiser Jeff Wells put out the word he was assembling a relay team to compete in the Tri- Sharks Classic Triathlon at Moraine View State Park near LeRoy on May 26. Each member was required to raise at least $250 for LAF. John Pratt volunteered to swim. Tony Hughes volunteered to run five kilometers. I asked to do the bicycle portion, a 13-mile circuit around the park. The bike course has fast straight-aways, rolling hills and a long, long grade along Moraine View's southwest boundary.
