As an alumnus of Illinois State University, I was extremely irritated by Denver Johnson's comments in the The Pantagraph Nov. 7. "If we have to start apologizing for 7-4 seasons," he said, "we need to stand back and recalibrate where we're at."

While a record of 7-4 is not horrible, it should not be celebrated nor considered the benchmark of success. It's fair to say 7-4 is a good record in Division 1-A when you are able to attend bowl games and draw revenue, but in 1-AA a record of 7-4 gets you nothing except finishing in the middle of the pack.
