Fitzgerald Endorses State Senator for Gubernatorial Race

SPRINGFIELD -- Former U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald waded back into Illinois politics Monday and endorsed state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger of Elgin in the 2006 Republican primary race for governor.

Fitzgerald, who didn't seek re-election in 2004 after one term in office, said he and Rauschenberger share many of the same conservative views on fiscal and social issues, including an opposition to abortion.
