For those of us brought up to believe in democracy, the filibustering of judicial nominees is unnerving.

I remember back in grade school we were taught that a majority vote -- for class officers, for cheerleaders or any other school office -- was the factor propelling candidates to victory. And as the years have unfolded, it followed that if a majority voted for a candidate, or an issue, he/it prevailed.
