District 87 Puts Focus On Students, Finances

BLOOMINGTON - The coming year will be one of financial and administrative transition in Bloomington District 87, though the district still wants to remain focused on student achievement.

To shore up its finances, the district laid off 26 of its 474 teachers and teaching assistants this month. The action is part of a deficit reduction plan to cope with significantly reduced state revenues and the recession. Some could be rehired if funding materializes.
