DANVILLE - Sue Richter and folks at the Vermilion County Museum Complex are tossing a birthday party for Abraham Lincoln from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8.

Like Bloomington, Danville was on Lincoln's circuit when he practiced law in Central Illinois in the 1840s and 1850s.

Danville Museum Marks Abe's Day

The museum complex boasts the Fithian House. Lincoln really slept here, Richter said. His bedroom and bed are there to prove it.

Lincoln also spoke from the home's balcony when he ran against Stephen Douglas for the U.S. Senate in 1858. Though he lost, the Lincoln-Douglas debates made Lincoln a name in national politics.
