* File only what you need. Don't treat files as dumping grounds.

* Keep fingertip files at your desk. Those are items you always refer to, including phone lists.

* Remember you are ever-changing so your filing system should change, too. Get rid of a category you no longer use, or add a new one you need. Once a year, purge files you don't need.
