BLOOMINGTON -- Two Twin City political scientists agreed the stakes are high in the coming confirmation battle for U.S. Supreme Court nominee John G. Roberts Jr. -- and the fight likely will be a hard one.

"This just isn't high noon," Tari Renner, political science department chairman at Illinois Wesleyan University said before President Bush announced the nomination Tuesday. "It's a war of the worlds. It's a political train wreck."
