Summary
Can a Christian vote for Sen. Barack Obama? Well, I actually know some Christians who are going to do so. Many African-American Christians, in particular, have told me they are going to vote for him for a number of reasons. First, because they feel he will be stronger on issues of social justice than Sen. John McCain. Second, because he will break through the "glass ceiling" for minority candidates. Third, his election will be another step forward in the long battle against the vestiges of racism that has plagued American society over its history.
For some, therefore, Obama's election will have both substantive and symbolic value. And I suppose other Christians of various backgrounds have other reasons to support him.
