SPRINGFIELD - Members of Congress who represent Central Illinois appear mostly ready to support a deal that would extend the Bush- era tax cuts for two more years and extend jobless benefits for unemployed workers.

In the House, Aaron Schock, a Republican from Peoria, said there were enough positive points in the plan to offer his backing, while Tim Johnson, an Urbana Republican, hasn't committed yet. In the Senate, Mark Kirk praised the plan, while Dick Durbin said Democrats fear the GOP will push too far.
