Summary


SPRINGFIELD - Police officers injured in the line of duty should not be penalized for taking medical leave more than year after they were injured, an appellate court has ruled in a lawsuit involving the city of Bloomington and some of its officers.

The 4th District Appellate Court has ruled that police officers have to be given a years worth of paid time off for injuries, even if the officers return to work for a time and then go back on medical leave. The court rejected Bloomington officials position that the benefits expire after one calendar year.
