I'd like to reply to Mr. Fairfield's letter in the Sept. 3 issue of The Pantagraph, ("Saddam ouster shows Bush studied history," YourViews). Mr. Fairfield said Adolf Hitler became the German leader in 1931, but all biographies of Hitler show he became chancellor and took power in 1933.

Whether Hitler or Saddam Hussein were barbaric leaders or not, really isn't any of America's business. Many of our own leaders, from Abe Lincoln to Mr. Bush, have waged some very barbaric and unnecessary wars themselves, and when it comes to war crimes, our own troops' conduct often rivals or surpasses the conduct of any foreign enemy.
