Above-average rainfall puts crimp on corn yields

BLOOMINGTON - Farmers are expecting reduced corn yields this year because of above-average rainfall that has flooded some fields.

"Portions of fields may yield normally but some might not yield at all," said John Hawkins, a spokesman for the Illinois Farm Bureau. Besides leaving some fields underwater, too much rain washes out fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.
