CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Cedar Rapids scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning without the benefit of a base hit to pull out a 9-8 win over Peoria and eliminate the Chiefs from their Midwest League Western Division semifinal playoff series. Peoria reliever Chris Huseby (0-1) walked four batters in the ninth to force in the tying run before hitting a batter to plate the winning run. Vladimir Veras (1-0) worked a scoreless ninth to earn the win for Cedar Rapids.
Iwu Coach Gets 100th Career Win
The No. 10-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer team gave Coach Dave Barrett his 100th career victory Thursday night by posting a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater at Neis Field. Annmarie Dolak scored on a header off a corner kick by Carlie Hoekstra in the opening minutes to lift IWU to the win. The Titans (2-0-2) outshot Whitewater 11-6. Alli Novak had three saves in net for IWU.
Senior hitter Lauren Seyller pounded nine kills to lead the Purple Raiders as the Bloomington High School volleyball team overpowered Springfield, 25-19, 25-16 in a nonconference match Thursday night at Robert Frank Sports Complex. Alina Agamy added 11 service points, including four aces, and nine digs for the Raiders (3-0) while Emily Burger picked up 19 assists.

Economy Keeps Brakes On Hancock Renovation
NORMAL -The "erector set" bleachers on the east side of Hancock Stadium aren't going anywhere any time soon. Illinois State director of athletics Sheahon Zenger confirmed this week that the school's plans to renovate its 46-year-old football stadium remain on hold.

There was some vintage John Daly on Thursday at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course. Upon arrival, he ducked into a tent for a cigarette and sipped on a large Diet Coke from McDonald's. He brought the Diet Coke along to a news conference, and carried it to the driving range for a clinic. In between, another cigarette burned.

BLOOMINGTON - Kyndell Smith accepts the 5-foot-7 next to his name on Bloomington High School's football roster. But the 132 pounds, is that accurate? "Right now it's not," Smith said. "I'm about 140."

Volleyball Tri-Valley downs LeRoy: Hannah Lessen collected 14 kills, and Madison Roberts added 21 service points to power Tri-Valley to a 21- 25, 25-19, 25-8 Heart of Illinois Conference win at LeRoy. Katrina Colclasure had 31 assists for the Vikings (4-0, 2-0).
