McLEAN -- Irene Melton celebrated her high school graduation Friday with proper pomp and circumstance -- 47 years after her classmates walked across the same gym floor to receive their diplomas. "My knees were shaking," Melton said of her walk to accept her diploma from Olympia school Superintendent Donald Hahn as the schoolchildren watched. "They really surprised me."

BLOOMINGTON -- When Ron Nord attends veterinarian meetings, he notices that most of the doctors caring for food animals are getting older. Nord, a 33-year Bloomington veterinarian, wonders who will take their place. In 2000, only 15 of 86 University of Illinois veterinary medicine graduates chose to treat food animals or livestock.
